Seoul Central Market in Sindang

  📍 442 Hwanghak-dong Jung-gu Seoul, 04576

Sindang is where old Seoul and new Seoul collide. At the center is Seoul Central Market—a traditional market that’s quietly become one of the city’s most creative neighborhoods. Locals call the area “Hip-dang-dong” (a playful nickname combining hip + Sindang), because old butcher shops, hardware stores, cocktail bars, indie cafés, and creative restaurants now sit side by side. Imagine if an old neighborhood in Berlin or Brooklyn kept its gritty soul—but suddenly filled with brilliant food, design, and nightlife. That’s Sindang.  It still feels undiscovered—which makes it even better.

Where to Eat

1) Gosari Express

(고사리 익스프레스)

for plant-based eaters, natural wine lovers

📍 381-4 Hwanghak-dong Jung-gu Seoul

A stylish modern bar built around one humble Korean ingredient: gosari (bracken fern),
a classic ingredient in Korean home cooking.  It’s earthy, savory, and surprisingly sophisticated. Come for lunch if you want something light; come in the evening for natural wine and Korean traditional spirits in a beautifully relaxed setting.

Order: their seasonal gosari plates + a glass of makgeolli.

2) La Calle (라까예)

 for casual bites, late-night energy

One of Seoul’s most fun surprises: genuinely excellent tacos inside a traditional Korean market. Grab tacos, order a cold beer, and stand among the buzz of market life around you. It’s international, local, chaotic, and somehow perfectly Seoul.

3) Gyeryugwan (계류관)

  for comforting Korean flavors

📍 717 Hwanghak-dong Jung-gu Seoul

Wood-fired chicken stuffed with glutinous rice—crispy outside, deeply juicy inside, smoky from oak wood, and incredibly satisfying.  It’s warm, generous food made for sharing—the kind of meal that makes you slow down and stay longer.
